Marrakech is well known for its cultural richness and appreciation of the arts. Aside from the numerous religious holidays and celebrations taking place throughout the year, there are many art fairs and festivals staged throughout the city on a regular basis. We highly recommend checking with the Marrakech office of tourism to see what is planned during your holiday in Marrakech.

Festivals and celebrations in Marrakech

Just South of Marrakesh is the extravagant national festival, or moussem, of Moulay Brahim and Sidi Hmed u Moussa in Tazeroualt. These moussems are like rural marets where merchants travel from distant regions in hopes of finding customers for their creations (rugs, blankets, silver and copper kitchenware, homespun wool djellabas and silhams…). Celebrated in July.

Marrakesh has an annual weeklong “Marrakesh Popular Arts Festival” (Folklore) and you can see performances by traveling dance troupes and other entertainers coming from all over the country. September
In September there is a famous celebration, the Imilchil Brides’ Fair which is held in the Middle Atlas, Imilchil (not far from Marrakech). Traditional costumes are intricately designed and very colorful.

Marrakech Folk Music Festival (local folk music) is generally held in mid September and there are concerts throughout the city.
