	As in all Moroccan cities, the souks of Fez are located in the ancient city center, the medina. Merchants selling the same sort of products are generally grouped together in their own “souk”. The tiny alleyways are crowded with the tiny boutiques on both sides.

Fassies are world renowned for their high quality pottery. Usually decorated in blue and white designs, this trade is passed down generation to generation.

The henna and wood working souks are located in the Nejjarine neighborhood and the scent of cedar is everywhere. The main plaza is planted with trees and provides a shaded haven from the warm sun. Various natural products derived from henna are sold here and you should not forget your camera as the wood workshops are open and the photo ops are great !

Nejjarine is also where the fabric dyers are located. Wool and cotton are treated and you can see the colors used floating in the streets after the rinsings. Workshops are used to tourists and welcome photographers with enthusiasm.

The tanneries can be a bit overwhelming in terms of smell. We suggest eating before you visit the workshops as you may not have an appetite afterwards !
The age old art of treating animal skins has remained the same throughout the centuries.

You simply should not miss El Attarine, the spice souk ! Without question, this souk is the most colorful in Fez.
